The Young And The Restless (Y&R) scoop suggests the soap is looking to hire a new leading man named Derek, according to Soap Hub. But is the character actually going to be a recast of Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz)?
Viewers have pointed out it makes no sense for Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) to proceed with her surrogacy plan without her husband in the picture. Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell) told Abby in early February that Chance had to leave Genoa City on a secret mission.
Despite this, she and Chance’s mother Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) have gone ahead with Abby’s plan to have a baby. Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) went through the implantation procedure recently. And we’ll find out this week if it worked. More than likely the procedure will be successful. But shouldn’t Chance be home by the time Mariah gives birth to he and Abby’s baby?

Of course, there are a lot of Boaz fans who would love nothing more than to see the handsome actor return to the Y&R. But it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon. Boaz was let go in December 2021 and his last appearance was on February 1, 2021.

“I was told that Chance is NOT being replaced or killed off,” Boaz posted on Instagram when he announced his departure. “He’s just not gonna be there anymore.” However, Y&R producers may have changed their minds.
But if they are going to recast the character, it would make the most sense to rehire Ordway’s husband Justin Gaston. He filled in for Boaz late last year during Abby and Chance’s wedding and honeymoon. And with social distancing protocols still in place, the real life husband and wife team could kiss and hug and stand next to each other in scenes.

The new Y&R male character is being described as an “all American” and an attractive and fit adventurer. This definitely fits Chance to a tee.
